Matthew's Story

"As a kid and up until a couple of years ago I was painfully thin! After being born prematurely, I had always struggled with food and eating enough, or eating the right things. My parents were constantly worried that I was underweight and I even resorted to hiding food just so they were satisfied that I was doing my best to eat more. All of my friends remember me as the skinny runt because of my lack of size and shape. I envied those who looked big and muscular, and I have always wanted to be in the type of shape that someone else would look at and admire or aspire to be like.

I started training in the latter part of 2007, aged 17, when my mum had invited me along with her to train at her gym. At first, my training was crazy. I would run for hours and train everything but my eyelashes! It took me a year of training like an eejit to work out that I was training all wrong for what I wanted to achieve. It was around this time that I decided to change gyms as I was eager to train somewhere new and experience different equipment in a new atmosphere. Through this move I was extremely lucky to meet power lifters, fitness models, fitness professionals who contribute to health magazines, and even a world class body builder. Through talking to all of these individuals, and even training alongside some of them, I was able to combine much of the information I gathered and applied it to my own training. I found that with many of them, although they had the perfect blend of training, nutrition and rest mapped out for themselves, what worked for them, didn't necessarily work for me. Instead I used a combination of the information that I had learned and developed my own methods of training to produce long lasting, sustainable and asthetically pleasing results!"
