  • "In 2007 I ballooned to 11 st and my "fat" clothes were getting too small. I was completely oblivious of how I looked and I thought I was ok. That was until I saw this photo of myself – ouch – I needed to take action and fast. So, I joined the gym.

I had a brief induction from one of the fitness instructors, consisting of some advice on using the equipment and was then basically left to my own devices.  I shed a few pounds initially, but progress was slow. I lost interest and the weight just piled on again. I needed to exercise because dieting alone was not enough. But I also felt that I needed guidance and encouragement.  I thought I would see what a personal trainer could offer me.

I started training with Donna McMullan in March this year – I was 11 st. Our first meeting focused on what I wanted to achieve; areas of my body I wanted to tone up/slim down; what my expectations were, (and if they were realistic), and my lifestyle and diet. She gave me a ‘taster’ session, going through a range of exercises explaining what muscle groups they were working and how she would tailor workouts and couple them with a specific diet plan to enable me to get as much benefit from the sessions as possible.

She recommended 3 sessions per week, as I wasn’t involved in any other activities or a current member of the gym. I took her advice, keeping up with the sessions following the diet and in just three months I have lost 1st and I feel great. I know I’ve made it sound easy, but Donna has worked me harder than I ever felt I possibly could. She seems to knows me better than I know myself, so I have learned to trust her judgement. She has encouraged me to lift weights, something I was interested in as a gym member, but lacked the confidence to do on my own in a public area.  The one to one attention in the privacy of Donna’s home has motivated me to push myself, and as a result, I am receiving compliments from everyone I meet. They all want to know my secret! I am absolutely delighted  - I couldn’t have done it without her!"
